Abstract
Purpose - This study aims to explore the concept of halal tourism by identifying its key principles, components, and growing relevance in the global tourism industry. As Muslim travel demand rises, understanding what defines halal tourism becomes increasingly important for destinations and service providers.
Method/Approach/Design - The research adopts a qualitative-descriptive approach through a comprehensive literature review and content analysis. Sources include academic journals, industry reports, and regulatory documents that focus on tourism practices aligned with Islamic principles.
Finding - The study finds that halal tourism extends beyond religious travel to include a holistic approach to tourism that emphasizes spiritual well-being, ethical consumption, and cultural sensitivity. It encompasses halal-certified food, Muslim-friendly accommodations, prayer facilities, gender-separated amenities, and respect for Islamic values throughout the travel experience.
Originality/Value - This paper offers a fresh conceptual framework that distinguishes halal tourism from general religious tourism. It contributes by providing a clearer understanding of halal tourism as both a spiritual and economic phenomenon. The study is valuable for tourism stakeholders seeking to tap into the expanding Muslim travel market while promoting inclusivity and cultural respect.
